High priest of our faith

Do you know what the word for “ministry” is in Hebrew? There isn’t one.  One way to say it is simply “serve.”  No one “has a ministry.” You just serve.

The other way is the same word for “priest” – Kohen – כוהן . When someone serves as a minister in the government, he is said to “kahen.”  Cohen is not Aaron’s last name, but his position to minister before the Lord.  Anyone who ministers is a type of “cohen” but not necessarily part of the priestly family of Cohen.

Hebrews 3:1 – Look to the Apostle and High Priest of our profession of faith, Yeshua.

When we talk about priesthood, ministry or apostles, let’s remember that we all are just servants of THE high priest and THE apostle: Yeshua the Messiah.  He is the center, the leader, the anointed one and the lifted up one. There must be no pride, ego or human glory when we speak of serving the Lord.

John 6:14 – This is truly the Prophet who was to come into the world.

Yeshua is not only THE apostle, He is THE prophet.

Luke 4:18 – The Spirit of YHVH is upon me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the meek.

Yeshua is also THE evangelist.

John 10:11 – I am the Good Shepherd.

He is THE Pastor.

John 3:2 – We know you are a Teacher who has come from God.

He is THE Teacher.

Now for us Messianic Jews, Yeshua is also THE Rabbi:

Matthew 23:8 – For one is your Rabbi, and you are all brothers.

It is acceptable to give titles to people to help clarify their roles and functions.  There are priests and rabbis; there are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.  Yet we are all reflections of THE great Rabbi, Priest and Apostle.

All ministry gifts come from God through Yeshua.  There should always be a measure of humility and simplicity when we speak of areas of service. Perhaps you had a prophecy. Fine!  But remember, anyone can prophesy (I Corinthians 14:31), including little boys and girls (Acts 2:17).

We are all “brothers and sisters.” We are family.  Different people serve in different ways.  Different members of the family have different gifts.  Some have leadership positions. But we are all equally beloved children before our heavenly Father.  Our personal relationships are more important than our “ministries.”
