Months after her husband was killed along with his sister and father by a terrorist at their Shabbat dinner, Michal Salomon met with White House officials and U.S. congressmen to voice her outrage that the terrorist’s family would receive money from the Palestinian Authority.
The Salomon’s were celebrating Shabbat and the recent birth of a child when Omar al-Abed, 19, entered their home, armed with a knife and began stabbing family members. Salomon managed to hide her five children during the July attack and they were unharmed. Al-Abed was later shot dead by an off-duty solider who responded to the screams from the house.
The attack occurred at Salomon’s in-law’s home in Halamish, in the West Bank.
Salomon met yesterday with White House officials as congress is set to consider the Taylor Force Act. Taylor Force, 28, was an American army veteran killed in a terror attack in Jaffa in March 2016.
The proposed legislation would significantly cut American funding to the PA if it continues paying monthly stipends to families of terrorists who kill Israelis. Salomon said it was “an essential first step among many important steps to take” to end this policy.
Salomon, who heard about PA compensation of terrorists’ families a few weeks after the attack on her husband, is in the U.S. with her five children on a family vacation following the tragedy this past summer.
“I felt I wanted to do something meaningful,” she told The Algemeiner. “So we all went to Washington to make an effort on behalf of the Taylor Force Act.”
Salomon has met with President Donald Trump’s Mideast peace envoy Jason Greenblatt, Rep. Ed Royce, Sen. Roy Blunt, Sen. Tom Cotton and a representative of Sen. Ted Cruz.
“Everyone was very sympathetic to my loss,” she said. “They said they are doing everything they can to make the Taylor Force Act a reality.”
Supporters of the bill say that Palestinian payouts to terrorists’ families glorifies the terrorists and encourages more attacks.
“I feel a connection to Taylor Force, and to each and every one who is part of this family of terror victims,” Salomon said. “Taylor Force’s murderer is getting money just like my husband’s murderer is getting money.”
