What does it mean to me that Israel exists for 70 years already

Modern day Israel is one of the great miracles of our time. It is the culmination of centuries of longing in the heart of the Jewish soul and also proof of the prophetic promise that God would return His people to their land from the four corners of the earth.

It is the one place where Jews can feel safe, have the freedom to be themselves and know that it was their God who arranged that for them. The fact that Israel is now celebrating its 70th year is also proof that He who keepeth Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps (Psalm 121:4) because Israel remains protected against all odds. The Arab legion came against Israel during the War of Independence and fully expected to win, but they didn’t. Many wars were fought after that, and there are many accounts where Israel’s defeat seemed sure, but confusion and error came over the attacking enemies, causing them to lose. What are the chances that a small country with a few million could rise victorious at each turn? Israel only had to lose one war for everything to be over, and the fact that she didn’t, over the course of 70 years, shows that something and someone supernatural is at work.

Israel is God’s personal home address. It is where he resides, and it is where He determined that the Jewish people would be rooted.  Israel is the tangible evidence of His faithfulness and His eternal love, not only to the Jews but also to the entire world who, from those very people, would receive God’s marvelous salvation and redemption (Isaiah 2:3 For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem).

The existence and continuation of Israel is ultimate proof of a God who loves His creation, has a plan for them and will defeat any who come against it. HaTikvah, our national anthem is not just “the hope” of the creation of our nation, but it is “the hope” that comes with knowing Who is behind the nation and the magnitude of what is yet to be done as His plan unfolds for all mankind.
