The State of Israel will donate $1 million to Jewish communities in Houston, Texas.

Israeli MK Naftali Bennett confirmed the donation Tuesday, the government to approve the funds in the coming days.

Bennett stated on the donation “The city of Houston was hurt badly last week, and the Jewish community, 70% of which lived in the flooded neighborhoods, was hit hard…Schools and synagogues were flooded and can’t be used. The old-age home and JCC [Jewish Community Center] were damaged, and hundreds of families will remain homeless… For years the Jewish communities stood by Israel when it needed their help; now it is our turn to stand by Houston’s Jewish community.”

Israel, as with majority of global natural disasters, acted as first responders, two of Israel’s main humanitarian aid groups, IsrAID and iAid, sending relief teams and much needed supplies to assist during Tropical Storm Harvey last Tuesday.

IsrAID sent seven members of its organization to join staff already on the ground in Houston Tuesday, the team to work with local organizations to provide much needed support on the ground. The team includes professionals in trauma and natural disaster relief.
