The mountain moved – A look at the weeks during the Thai cave rescue

Some trust in horses, some in chariots but I will trust in the Lord my God.

A few weeks ago while reading the news I came across an article of boys and a coach trapped in a cave. A sports team of 12 teenagers and their coach were hiking after training one day in Thailand. The Monsoon rains suddenly approached the area (sudden is normal in monsoon season). The group found themselves trapped in deep almost 2 miles into the cave with rains rising every hour.

I lived in Japan for over 3 years. Monsoons are very dangerous for this kind of trekking. The entire region becomes soaked at any given moment and flooding, drowning and damage is very common in monsoon season. One cannot imagine the trial these people endured. Let’s try to imagine however what it looked like in the cave.

In Israel we have the ancient tunnels and we have the water of Hezekiah’s tunnel. In a season which was after heavy rains one year my husband and I went in the tunnel cave. We were warned it was very high (water level), but we wanted to see it. We spent much of the tunnel trip up to our necks literally in water and some places had to dive under completely. There was no light and no sun shining in. It was awesome but very scary too.

We were tired and thankful when we finished the tunnel excursion. Many behind us relied on our cell phone flashlights to see anything. It was a feeling of errie loneness to say the least.

The trapped in Thailand were very young many of them. The slightly older boys must have been a great comfort to the younger ones as night fell for over 10 days on them!!

Experts were telling the world it would take four months to rescue them if they could ever be found. How many times have we seen as a world community lives lost on sudden weather changes? Too many times to count. We have seen many perish in the caves of coal mining, blizzards, and rains all over the world. Each story grips us more than the one before. We feel helpless as mankind struggles to do something, to do anything to help. It seemed we were going to lose this battle too and they would not get out. Thailand weather reported more rains coming, the merciless Monsoon rain of Asia.

The moment came when the Holy Spirit moved in us so greatly when we saw pictures of praying monks. We discerned it wasn’t going to do any good to pray to idols and we’d better start interceding for the people and families and trapped boys. We knew all power has been given to Yeshua Jesus in heaven and earth. We began to pray a mustard seed prayer, and the mountain was indeed moved as Jesus promises it will move.

People all over the world began to pray. We in Israel in our home prayed too. We suddenly understood that nothing could be done for them unless the Lord invoked his power and help. We began to cry out and acknowledge him and this power. We pleaded on Thailand’s behalf.

People’s hearts were moved and the next day we heard that volunteers and even Elon musk (today genius inventor of all time) had offered his Space X! This minisub can go anywhere in water! In two days the rains would drown the boys and fact was fact. The point is that God stirred the people’s hearts suddenly to help. Every expert diver was brought in overnight! The ropes were sent in miraculously and the oxygen was running low for those trapped.  one diver even died carrying oxygen to the young boys once found.

The rescuers however were breathing all the available oxygen once they found the trapped boys! The entire story was phenomenal. It was something that ONLY the power of God could do. Treacherous rains were expected after finding the boys (albeit on a fluke). Two British divers suddenly came upon them!!

It was the impossible with man becoming possible with God story of our time!

To make matters worse the boys stuck in those massive winding caves below water now could not swim! They had never learned. Once they were found the divers stayed with them and brought in a doctor diver too. They semi trained the boys over the next days and hours how they were going to learn swimming real fast. They were given underwater survival skills 101 and in a hurry. Don’t forget those deadly monsoon rains were approaching again. Just at the moment all was receded back enough and water pumped out to rescue, rains came in again! They came again and again, filling the caves to no letting up in sight. It was perhaps going to be a failed mission it seemed. Frantically the divers kept trying while the world watched day after day.

As I watched the TV and we continued to pray for a miracle we saw the magnitude of the rescue operation! It was at best epic in proportion. Seeing those divers swimming 7 hours and 40 min in rescue mode was unbelievable. The cave was just like Hezekiah’s tunnel which exhausted us in just an hour. Water swirled everywhere, around every cliff and corner. The boys had found safety for days in a tiny corner of the mountain but it was soon to be without any oxygen and no food for days. They were going to die, no question about it. They were going to die without knowing the one who can save.

Yeshua in his power saved them. They were brought out finally in a few different attempts. The same divers who safely brought the first group out were commissioned to bring out the second group as well, four attempts to rescue were successful.

I give Yeshua and the God of Israel all the glory here. I know He alone stirred the hearts of the rescue volunteer team and those like Elon Musk and his modern machine. The hand of the living God of Israel touched this situation. In short, the prayer we had prayed in Israel (the believer community) and elsewhere, moved a mountain. The rains came and shifts in winds and miracle dynamics took place. We can say therefore safely that the prayer of mustard seed faith moved the mountain! It was an impossible situation, literally. With man things are impossible but with God all things are possible. Let’s keep praying for those impossible situations all over the troubled world.

As Israel we are called to be a light. There was no light in that mountain in Thailand yet Yeshua’s light shone bright as the sun and carried the sons’ home to their families. He is the light of the world. Son of Abraham, son of David. All hail the power of Jesus name and let angels prostrate forth. Bring forth the royal diadem and crown Him Lord of all. All power has been given to me in heaven and earth. May we take hold of those truthful words and pray His power for deliverance everywhere. May Thailand give glory now to the God of Israel who saved her sons.
